Excerpt: “I smiled as I remembered that first backpacking venture in the Sierra Nevada. My own and my sister’s packs were filled with just our clothes and a favorite toy. Our sleeping bags and pads were attached snug to the outside. I remembered my pack being so long and me so small it bumped my calves with each step.”
