"I CAN KAYAK" Kids Camp

I CAN KAYAK” and Elakah Expeditions present “I CAN KAYAK” Kids Camp 2008!

“I CAN KAYAK” Kids Camp is a five-day sea kayak camp we started last summer, with the support of Elakah Expeditions. Through skills practice, games, and team building exercises, students learn how to paddle and manuever kayaks, understand the parts of a kayak and how they work, how to self-rescue and wet exit, and how to make smart on-the-water judgements, and communicate on the water with simple whistle, hand and paddle signals.

Learning Kayak Nomenclature and understanding kayaks inside and out

On day one students are given the pieces of this specially built MiniYak and are given the instructions to reconstruct the pieces into a kayak that you can paddle on the lake. In this exercise, which is a always a favorite, students learn kayak nomemclature and get a hands-on understanding of kayaks inside and out.

And, we always have lots of fun!

Stay tuned… we have plans to keeps building “I CAN KAYAK“!!!

Very cool. One of the reasons kayak paddling will keep growing in popularity. Excellent training and outreach to new paddlers!

I wish we had more organized things like this in single blade paddling around here. Seems like a more independent and isolated crowd for the most part, not so much communicators and evangelists of the sport like I see amongst the kayakers locally.
