A Stormy Day Adventure on Galbraith Mountain

“Outside.”

This one-word request came from Hayden yesterday, as winds gusted to 63 MPH. We did name him Hayden Storm, I thought, as I grabbed rain jackets, boots and snacks and headed out into the storm.

Trees danced and the winds howled around us as Hayden, Chili and I hiked up the Galbraith Mountain logging road near our house to a small pond, creek and maze of deer trails and rarely used single track. It was pure heaven for Hayden and Chili, they chased each other through the mud, walked in the creek, climbed toddler-sized mountains, crawled on, in and under  logs and stumps, shared a banana, then ran some more.

We were all grinning ear to ear as we trudged back down the hill from our adventure – tired, hungry, muddy, and very happy.
